Why this segment is indispensable
Fewer children are being born in the Netherlands, but parents are making more conscious and targeted purchases for each child. On average, parents are older, better informed, and more critical when it comes to materials, safety, and origin. They’d rather have one good product than three cheap ones. That’s exactly where specialty stores have the edge over online shops: advice, a story behind the product, and a well-curated selection.
On top of that, children grow. Every size, every stage, and every birthday is an opportunity to make a new purchase. Emotional value, high gift-giving potential, and customers who naturally keep coming back—few other market segments combine these factors so well.

Sustainable and multifunctional products with an authentic story
On the trade show floor, you’re face to face with the supplier. You feel the fabric, check the finish, and ask detailed questions about materials, production, and certification. Within five minutes, you know whether a collection is a good fit for your client—something no PDF can ever do.
“Every size, every stage, and every birthday is an opportunity to make a new purchase.“
Free admission
The trade show floor is brimming with inspiration, clever combinations, and exhibitors who know both their collections and the market. Trends not to be missed
-
Growing with your child is the new sustainability. Cribs, chairs, and desks that last from age 0 to 12; clothing with adjustable sizes. Parents think in terms of years, not seasons—and are happy to pay for it.
-
Materials have become a selling point: organic cotton, muslin, glass and stainless steel, rattan, bamboo, and jute. With the new EU Toy Safety Regulation and the digital product passport on the horizon, “Where does this come from?” is becoming a standard question at the checkout.
-
Color is making a comeback. Alongside the familiar shades of oatmeal, walnut, and terracotta, you’ll see green in every shade, from sage to emerald. In children’s fashion, however, the trends are all over the place: buttery pastel shades, colorful denim, and prints that can be cheerfully mixed and matched
- Screen-free play is on the rise. Wood, tactile materials, and sensory play are gaining popularity as a counterbalance to screen time. Parents are specifically asking for toys that foster creativity and problem-solving skills.
- Personalization sells. Nameplates, engraved wooden toys, embroidered blankets. From product to keepsake—with the profit margin that goes with it, and something that’s nearly impossible for large online retailers to replicate.
-
The baby gift will be a package—curated boxes for both baby and parent, practical rather than decorative, less is more. Ideal for setting up a gift table that stays in use all year round.
-
Collecting knows no age limits. Blind boxes, nostalgic toys, and collectibles draw both teenagers and adults into your store. Childhood is no longer just for children.
For whom is this segment of interest?
Baby specialty stores and toy stores, of course. But also concept stores, home goods stores, gift shops, bookstores, department stores, and online shops—and, increasingly, supermarkets and drugstores, which are seeing their shelves of children’s and baby products expand. In short: if your customers have children at home, you’ll find something here for you.
Range
Toys, gifts, stationery, greeting cards, party supplies, and now kids & baby items, too. One trade show floor, two days, your entire buying season. Check out the brands and collections available.
